Beaches and Parks

Follow the sun to Key West’s beaches, waterfront parks, and wide-open spaces. From calm mornings beside the Atlantic to snorkeling, garden walks, and sunsets over the Gulf, each offers a different way to experience the island outdoors.

Smathers Beach

Stretching along the Atlantic shoreline, Smathers Beach is a favorite for swimming, sunbathing, and getting out on the water. Rent a kayak or paddleboard, try parasailing, or simply find a place beneath the palms and let the afternoon unfold.

Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park

History and natural beauty meet at one of Key West’s most distinctive waterfront settings. Explore the landmark Civil War-era fort, swim and snorkel in clear waters, or settle in beneath the trees for a picnic and a quieter view of the sunset.

Higgs Beach

Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing beside the Atlantic at this welcoming oceanfront park. Higgs Beach also features the historic Reynolds Street Pier, beach volleyball and pickleball courts, a children’s playground, a dog park, and the tropical gardens of the Key West Garden Club at Fort West Martello.

Truman Waterfront Park

Set along the Gulf near Old Town, Truman Waterfront Park brings together waterfront paths, open lawns, public art and spaces for the whole family. The park is also home to Coffee Butler Amphitheater and hosts concerts, festivals and community events throughout the year.
